Digital fiction book sales soar, Publishers Association says

A “huge increase” in the value of electronic publication revenue in the UK has been declared by business company the Marketers Organization.

The value of electronic stories revenue in the first half of 2012 was up 188% on the same period in 2011.

Physical book sales saw a fall in value, dipping 0.4% season on season.

Industry professionals said that while the numbers were healthy, other places of the industry, such as bookstores, ongoing to battle financially.

“Certainly the powerful e-book development has taken the tarnish off the otherwise challenging industry,” said Philip Jones, manager of The Bookseller.

“It is best news about it that the industry is shifting and earning money from that, but it is going to a trickier situation where there are less booksellers.”
